Tobias Wiesenthal: is a scientific officer at the
Competitiveness and Sustainability Unit of the European Commission's
Joint Research Centre IPTS in Seville. He provides scientific-based
policy advise in the areas of future energy, environment and transport
policies, evaluating the results generated by different energy and
transport models such as POLES.
He has lately contributed to several studies on post-2012 climate
scenarios ('Global Climate Policy Scenarios for 2030 and Beyond'), the
assessment of biofuel support policies (PREMIA project) and the 'Capacity
Map of the Energy Research Capacity in EU Member States'.
Tobias holds a (German) "Diplom" in physics and a Post-Graduate
Certificate in International Affairs. After finishing his studies, he
worked on several short term projects for the Wuppertal Institute for
Climate, Environment and Energy, the International Energy Agency and the
World Bank. He subsequently joined the German Advisory Council on the
Environment as scientific expert for national energy and climate
policies.
Prior to his engagement for the IPTS, Tobias worked as energy and
environment project manager at the European Environment Agency. He
managed projects on energy-environment indicators and Europe's bioenergy
potential, leading to key reports, such as 'Energy and environment in
the European Union – tracking progress towards integration' and 'How
much biomass can Europe produce without harming the environment?'
